With climate change and increasingly hot and dry fire seasons, the wildfire risk in the Oakland Hills Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone has markedly increased in recent years. Egress routes are extremely limited for the area’s population size and density and a fallen overhead powerline on an evacuation route will block evacuation and fire-fighting access, potentially resulting in loss of life. Residents are petitioning PG&E to include the Montclair area in their 10,000-Miles Undergrounding Program to substantially prevent wildfires and reduce power outages. Check out their petition HERE
