Firestorm 25
This October 20th, 2016 marked the 25th anniversary of the Oakland/Berkeley Hills Firestorm, still considered one of the worst urban wildfires in the nation’s history. More than 3,500 homes and 1,520 acres were destroyed; 25 people died and the economic loss has been estimated at $1.5 billion in 1992 dollars.
