Parkridge Estates is a well-established neighborhood of approximately 250 homes entirely East of Skyline Blvd. We are located south of Skyline High School and our eastern perimeter abuts Chabot Regional Park, thus
truly on the “front lines” of the urban / wildlands interface.
Parkridge Estates has had an active neighborhood association for many years focused on reducing crime as well as emergency preparedness. We also like to have fun and have had a neighborhood “block party” since 1974.
After the L.A. Fires in January of 2025
several of us met and decided to form a committee of home owners to improve our neighborhood’s fire resilience with a short-term goal of becoming a Firewise recognized community in 2025. Our dedicated Firewise Committee met regularly throughout 2025 as we worked through the Firewise process and engaged with our neighbors.
Our resulting 3 Year Action Plan
is very comprehensive and we have a lot of work to do, having gained our Firewise designation on October 3, 2025, becoming the largest Firewise neighborhood in Oakland!
We are presently focused on
- implementation of Zone 0
- installation of ember resistant vents
- removal of highly combustible vegetation from our neighborhood.

We are very grateful for the support and guidance of the Oakland Fire Safe Council through this process and are eager to engage with other Firewise neighborhoods in Oakland in the future.
The (NFPA) Firewise USA® recognition program was designed to help residents learn about wildfire risks and provide a self-directed, collaborative framework for neighbors to work together to reduce these risks by engaging in fuel reduction and home hardening activities.
Oakland Firesafe Council is encouraging Oakland neighborhood groups to join the growing network of Firewise USA® sites from across the nation by taking ownership in preparing and protecting their homes and communities against the threat of wildfire. LEARN MORE
