Operating Emergency Respite Centers (ERC) is a two-hour workshop designed to prepare all City Disaster Service Workers (DSW) to open, maintain, and close a facility opened as a refuge to people who may have experienced a disastrous event, such as evacuations due to a fire or a flood, or extreme weather conditions. Operating Emergency Respite Centers (ERC) introduces essential elements of a respite center, including ERC structure, guidelines, procedures, and client-centric approaches to helping those who are affected by an emergency event or a disaster.
