Earth Day 2021 Work Days

Two Earth Day outdoor workday events provide opportunities to get out in the fresh air, work those gardening muscles and feel good about making an ecological, firesafe difference in our community. Once again, this year is a drought year and the fire danger is high. We need help at two fire prevention, fuel reduction work parties!

Saturday, April 24—Gateway Emergency Preparedness Exhibit Center & Fire Resistant Demonstration Garden
Time:  9-Noon
Where:  Gateway Emergency Preparedness Exhibit Center—overlooking Highway 24 at Caldecott Lane and Tunnel Road in Hiller Highlands

Saturday, April 24Garber Park
Time: 9 am-Noon
Where: Garber Park-Meet at the Evergreen Lane Entrance.  Directions:  From Ashby Ave take Alvarado Rd. to Slater Lane; Slater Lane to Evergreen Lane, then turn Right onto Evergreen Lane.  Garber Park is at the end of the street.  Park on the side of the street but please do not park in any driveway or parking pad.  For those who don’t mind a short, but steep walkup the hill you can park at the Claremont Ave parking lot and walk up the trail.  A map and directions to both entrances can be found at garberparkstewards.org. Limited to 15 people for social distancing. Volunteers under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Time: Mornings 9 am-Noon; Afternoons  1-3 pm
Where: Beaconsfield Canyon-at the intersection of Beaconsfield Place and Keswick Court in Montclair

Wear long sleeves and long pants for protection, shoes with good tread to climb hills, your own gloves, a reusable water bottle and gloves.  Please wear masks, and practice social distancing. If you have a saw, please bring it. Otherwise, both groups will provide tools, but please RSVP so we make sure we have enough.

If you can’t do the physical work, please come anyway—we need photos and SNACKS!
