This week, the Oakland Firesafe Council sent letters to State legislators in support of funding for wildfire prevention–with the recommendation that our state officials ensure that funding includes communities in Local Responsibility Areas (like Oakland) and not just those in State Responsibility Areas (such as the forest in Northern California). We asked leaders to approve the Governor’s proposed $323 million early action funding for Wildfire and Forest Resilience as soon as possible. And we asked Senators to pass SB 45, the Wildfire Prevention, Safe Drinking Water, Drought Preparation and Flood Protection Bond Act of 2022, asking that they consider adding “properties and residents in the high fire risk severity zones and/or wildland/urban interface” to their definition of “vulnerable communities.”
